The Red Deer Region is one of the fastest growing markets in Canada. The Town of Sylvan Lake, located within the Region, is the second fastest growing urban municipality in the country.
 
The Region's population grew 11 per cent between 1996 and 2001, compared to Canada's national average of 4 per cent. Red Deer County's growth was pegged at almost 9 per cent while the City's came in at just over 13 per cent.
 
These growth trends are expected to continue with the total population in the area reaching 125,000 by 2010. Population forecasts project continued growth between 1.7 per cent and 2.0 per cent per year.
 
The area's population is one of the youngest in Canada with the median age of 35 years versus the national median of 38.
