All properties in The City of Red Deer are levied a property tax. The property tax is based on the assessed value of the land plus the buildings, times the mill rate established annually by City Council. Assessments, and the resulting tax, reflect a 12 month period (January 1 - December 31).
Tax notices are mailed in May and must be paid prior to June 30 to avoid late payment penalties.
Residential property owners can sign up for the Tax Installment Payment Plan , which allows them to have payments automatically withdrawn from their accounts each month.

Red Deer County property owners can sign up for the Monthly Payment Options which allows for automatic withdrawl of the current year's taxes on a monthly basis.
The tax rate in Red Deer County is highly competitive with other areas of Alberta. County property taxes are comprised of school taxes, municipal taxes and specific requisitions for recreation, fire and library services. Assessments are based on market values determined by the marketplace. Assessments, and the resulting tax, reflect a 12 month period (January 1 - December 31).
