Medical projects at heart of downtown revitalization

Two construction projects on the way for Riverlands signal the start of a hip, urban neighbourhood in downtown Red Deer. On Monday, Riverlands Medical Centre and Appleway Dental Clinic buildings were approved for development by the municipal planning commission. Construction on both projects will begin in the fall.

RDC expansion approved

Expansion of Red Deer College’s main building, part of its $110-million construction project, got the go-ahead from the city municipal planning commission on Monday. The 166,306-square-feet expansion is part of the $50-million first phase of the development.

Employers won’t be surprised to hear that Statistics Canada has reported that average weekly earnings of Alberta payroll employees grew to $793.68 in March, a 4.6 per cent increase over the same month last year. This was the highest average among the provinces, and well above the national average of $746.18.
